Draft Beer.

Dear Internet,

The time has come for the tough things to be said.

I'm getting married and you're not invited.

It's not because I don't like you or because I don't want you there- well, it kind of is. I've never ever ever wanted a big wedding. I've always pictured a very intimate gathering of family and a couple of choice friends, but nothing extravagant. Please know that I value my friendships with you and I know that if we could all get together it would be a wonderful thing, but I know for certain that the time and place for that is not my wedding. Maybe Adair's on a Thursday night, but not my wedding. I hope you can understand, because planning this "intimate affair" for a rapidly growing guestlist (since my lovely fiance wants to invite his entire regional work team) is grating on my nerves.

Last night my mother suggested a tent (briefly I thought she was suggesting it for me to WEAR), which was quickly followed with "and maybe a dancefloor and band". I had to let her down gently by saying "I'm not staying out til midnight entertaining people. All I want to do is get married!" Honestly, I don't even want a reception- but "a 6:00 wedding means food" and "we at least have to have cake". I was also told that the cake isn't for me, it's for the guests, so even though I don't even like cake, I have to have it. I suggested cheesecake instead, because I love me some of that. *Incredulous stare* followed by, "You've GOT to be kidding me." At least my mom liked that idea. She wants to do a "toppings bar" where you can top your slice with chocolate or cherries, etc. I kind of think that's a great idea, though my better half asked if we would also be having banjos and a hoedown. I'm marrying a very..... traditional kind of guy. Someone who doesn't do different very well.

So, here I sit with a notepad next to me trying to decide what kind of flowers I want (because "we need centerpieces for the tables at the reception"). I'm trying to figure out food for the reception I don't even really want. Here I thought I was doing good by finding a dress! (In my defense, I also have secured the church, pastor and a lovely photographer... which is all I thought I was going to need- WRONG).

So internet, perhaps you should be glad you're not invited to this event. Hopefully we can at least achieve the objective and then someone can slip me a valium and I can float through the evening. Just kidding... but not really.

*P.S. I thought I'd title this entry with something I do want. Desperately.

LOL! The cheesecake portion of the post cracks me up. "I love me some me!" should be your response to any suggestions conflicting with your wishes.

I hope your stress-level stays manageable.

Could you have a cheesecake "grooms"cake? Since the fiance wants traditional cake, maybe you can just switch the names? "Bride's cake v. Groom's Cake 2008"

My brother was very clear on this subject. If the baker couldn't make a cake in the shape of a duck call, he wants turtle cheesecake.

Oh no. The groom likes chocolate cake and since you're "supposed to have" white cake for the wedding cake and chocolate cake for the grooms cake it works out just fine for him. I've never ever heard that the cake isn't for the people getting married. Maybe I'm just out of the etiquette (see? I dont' even know how to spell it) loop.

And V, I think I'll add that line to my canned responses. I can blame crazy on the baby, right?

I say if people can have cupcakes for their wedding you can have cheesecake! While I'm a fan of cake, I LOVE me some cheesecake too! And if the guests don't like it, well it's your wedding they can get over it already!

So happy for you Sara. Can't wait to see the pictures!

Oh Dawn- you should've seen the look on my face when I suggested cupcakes! I was prepared to place an order at Sprinkles in Dallas and have Heather bring them to me!!!

It is my wedding, dammit. And if you don't like cheesecake then you damn well may be a nazi. Oh snap!

-----------------> this girl was all about a non-trad wedding! (so i sort of feel your pain)

i didn't want to spend thousands and thousands of dollars (or for my parents too) to entertain others.

we had a nice intimate gathering of 45 people on the beach.

for me= perfect

don't try to please anyone. this is YOUR day.

congrats!!

See, I think you're "supposed to have" whatever the bride wants. No? Whatever you plan, it will be perfect because it will be YOUR wedding day and you and Clint will always have those memories.
And your dress is not a tent...you and your baby are gorgeous!

So, my sister's MIL told us last year that the Groom's cake wasn't for people to eat, it was for the single women to take home and put under their pillow. That night, they would dream about the man they're going to marry.

There were about a dozen different less offensive ways to say, "Bitch, you done lost your damn mind".

Cake under my pillow. Oh, I'll show you some cake under my pillow.

Hang in there, and do your best to have FUN!

Normally, I would say.. "Get drunk and have a helluva good time"... BUT, that is not gonna work this time.

I vote you have fun and do what YOU want.. it is your day....

I did the traditional wedding two times to please my folks. With Max, we did an intimate ceremony "our way". It was by far the most memorable experience of my life. Have a wonderful wedding!
